Showcasing Open Space through Accessible Adventure

38North

Project Description

38N invites Kansans to tell their stories of adventure in the Sunflower State. Outdoor novices and accomplished adventurers, skilled and unskilled artists, are all welcome to tell their Kansas adventure stories in their own, unique manner. There are three simple guidelines: the adventure must be self-propelled, self-supported, and must take place in Kansas. 38N strives to transform the meaning of adventure and stretch the boundaries of the adventure narrative. Mellon Foundation support will be used to (1) diversify our online archive of stories by establishing scholarships for storytellers in underrepresented demographics, (2) upgrade the technical infrastructure of our digital archive, making it searchable by topic, place, and author, (3) offer online courses in adventure storytelling, and (4) support storytelling festivals.
